Application notes

This UV-protection masterbatch is formulated for PP spunbond fabrics facing outdoor or UV-exposed service — for example, agricultural covers, geotextiles, and outdoor protective applications. The typical dosage range of 3–5% is a starting window; the final level is set against the exposure requirement and the fabric construction.

A request for "UV protection" can mean two different things, and the distinction shapes the whole evaluation. One buyer may need the fabric to block UV transmission (a shielding target, measured by transmission or UPF methods); another may need the PP fabric itself to retain useful properties after outdoor exposure (a durability target, measured after a defined weathering cycle). These targets should not share one unqualified claim — name the UV problem before selecting the route.

For durability targets, the exposure cycle and the endpoint must both be defined: lamp or light source, temperature, moisture conditions, duration, and which property is evaluated afterward (tensile retention, elongation, color change, or another end-use property). Note that laboratory exposure hours are not a universal outdoor lifetime. Fabric construction — basis weight, filament structure, color, and pigment package — also influences the result and should be reviewed as part of the complete additive package.

Our buyer guide on UV masterbatch selection separates UV blocking from weathering in detail.
