Product use & trial considerationsApplication notes
This is a development-route offering for color and functional masterbatches in crosslinked polyethylene foam — XPE and IXPE — used in protective packaging, cushioning sheets, insulation, sports mats, and water-recreation components. Unlike the spunbond and meltblown lines, which work from defined product grades, this foam route is handled project by project: the formulation is developed against the buyer's foam system, process, and target.
The project-based approach exists for a technical reason. XPE/IXPE production involves crosslinking chemistry, and the masterbatch must be compatible with the specific crosslinking route, foaming conditions, and base polymer — variables that differ significantly between producers. Color and functional targets (which may include flame retardancy, antistatic behavior, or UV stability depending on the end use) are therefore defined together with the process review rather than selected from a catalog.
A useful first discussion starts with the foam system in use (XPE, IXPE, or another crosslinked PE route), the base resin and sheet or block format, the target color or function, and the end-use market including any compliance needs. From there, the application team defines a development plan with trial checkpoints rather than a fixed off-the-shelf grade.
If the project involves a different foam chemistry — EPP bead foam, for example — it is treated as a separate route so foam systems are never mixed.
